In a joint effort to promote environmental conservation and sustainability assessment, student trainees from Tarlac State University (TSU) and Central Luzon State University (CLSU) conducted a comprehensive biodiversity assessment at Lingap Kalikasan Park on July 12, 2023.
The interns, guided by Mr. Edmark P. Bulaong and Dr. Shirly C. Serrano faculty members of the Institute for Climate Change and Environmental Management (ICCEM) embarked on this initiative to gather valuable data regarding the park’s flora and fauna, ecosystems, and overall environmental conditions. This assessment aimed to evaluate the ecological diversity and health of the park.
Throughout the assessment process, the interns employed a variety of scientific methods and tools. They conducted field surveys and recorded detailed observations of various plant and animal species present in the park. Additionally, they analyzed environmental factors such as air and water quality, soil composition, and the presence of endemic and introduced/invasive species.
The assessment results will provide valuable insights into the current state of Lingap Kalikasan Park and its potential for further conservation efforts. The data collected will contribute to the development of evidence-based strategies aimed at preserving and enhancing the park’s biodiversity, ensuring its long-term ecological integrity, and supporting the local community’s sustainable development goals.
Furthermore, this collaborative initiative between the student trainees from TSU and CLSU through ICCEM highlights the importance of interdisciplinary approaches in addressing environmental challenges. By integrating the principles of sustainability into scientific research and practical conservation efforts, the interns hope to inspire others to take proactive steps towards achieving the SDGs and fostering a more sustainable future.
