The Institute for Climate Change and Environmental Management, in collaboration with Youmanitarian International, hosted a Seminar-Workshop on “Basic Lettuce Growing Using Recycled Materials” on February 12, 2025, at the Climate Change Center Amphitheater. The event was sponsored by Plant Habitat and Youmanitarian International.
The seminar began with welcome remarks from Mr. Daryl Juganas, Sub-unit Head for Environmental Conservation, followed by an introduction of the resource speaker by Mr. Clarence Luther S. Bulanadi, Executive Director of Youmanitarian International. The workshop featured Mr. John Harold B. Zapata, owner of Plant Habitat, who led a hands-on session on hydroponics urban gardening. His expertise and generosity in providing free training on lettuce cultivation aimed to promote sustainable gardening practices.
Students from the BS Environmental Science, BS Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering, and BS Education programs actively participated in the seminar. The workshop inspired them to take part in sustainable agriculture initiatives, emphasizing that youth can play a vital role in environmental conservation and food security.
The program concluded with closing remarks from Mr. Roberto D. Pelayo, Sub-unit Head for Extension and Environmental Education, reinforcing the importance of sustainable agriculture and encouraging students to apply their newfound knowledge in their own communities.
