On March 15, 2024, Dr. Jaime A. Manalo IV, an Australia Grants Alumni grantee, joined hands with the Institute for Climate Change and Environmental Management, College of Science, as they conducted the Policy Workshop on Mainstreaming Climate Change Adaptation in Rice Communities in Central Luzon at Rice Hotel, San Jose City. The workshop served as the venue to present findings of the research led by Dr. Manalo and Dr. Abella in rice-farming communities in Central Luzon.
The workshop was participated by the representatives from Municipal Agricultural Offices and Farmers’ Associations of the seven provinces of Region III. It became an avenue to discuss and develop strategies for enhancing the climate resilience of rice farming systems.
During the workshop, Dr. Manalo IV took the lead, presenting the results of the project, followed by Atty. Jay B. Villafria Jr. and Mr. Jeorge M. Dela Cruz, who gave lectures on policy making on climate change adaptation. Dr. Gella Patria L. Abella, Ms. Chrishtine Joy Limos and PhilRICE staff served as facilitators.
Throughout the workshop, participants actively contributed ideas and insights to finalize recommendations that should be prioritized in their municipality.As the workshop drew to an end, participants expressed their commitment to implement the recommendations and action plans developed during the deliberations. They stressed the importance of continued collaboration and coordination among all stakeholders to ensure the successful mainstreaming of climate change adaptation in rice production policies and programs in Central Luzon.
