ICCEM

The Institute for Climate Change and Environmental Management (ICCEM) marked its 26th anniversary through a communal walk and clean-up drive in the different areas of Central Luzon State University (CLSU) on March 24, 2023.

In line with this year’s theme: “Mainstreaming Climate Action for Future Generations” which was inspired by the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal 13: Climate Action, the activity aims to raise awareness on the importance of waste management in combatting climate change and improving the quality of the natural environment.

Dr. Lorenz J. Fajardo, Head of ICCEM, and Dr. Gella Patria L. Abella, Acting Dean of the College of Science, led the activity together with the ICCEM’s faculty members and staff, Department of Environmental Science, Ichthyological Society (IS), Society of Agriculture and Biosystems Engineering (SAGES), ICCEM interns (BS Development Communication, BA Literature, CLSU and BS Information Technology, Our Lady of the Sacred Heart College), immersion students and faculty members from Doña Juana Chioco National High School and Sto. Domingo Trade National High School, and students from other colleges (BS Environmental Science, Bachelor of Secondary Education Major in Values Education).

The clean-up drive started at 6:30 a.m. at the CLSU main gate, where participants brought their own sack for the collected pieces of plastic trash.

Aside from raising awareness on the importance of environmental protection and sustainability, the communal walk around the campus was an excellent opportunity for participants to appreciate the natural beauty of the CLSU campus, and to learn about the efforts of ICCEM in protecting the environment.
Dr. Fajardo expressed her appreciation and hope that an event like this will inspire others to take urgent action for the environment.

ICCEM stands firm on its commitment to safekeeping the environment through research and education, 26 years and beyond.
