Dr. Shirly C. Serrano, CLSU permanent representative, and Mr. Daryl A. Juganas, alternate representative are currently attending the 2nd Joint National and Site-level Technical Working Group (TWG) Meeting from October 18-20, 2023 at Hevea Hotel and Resort, Angeles City, Pampanga. This project is related to the implementation of the National Framework on Access and Benefit Sharing of Genetic Resources and Associated Traditional Knowledge by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources – Biodiversity Management Bureau (DENR-BMB).
The Joint Technical Working Group meeting will provide a venue for the Project’s National and Site-Level Technical Working Group representatives in both Region 3 and Region 5 to witness and support the formalization of the Project’s partnerships through the signing of MOAs with Herbanext, Pharmalytics, and PhilPILI; to assess the Project’s progress and accomplishments for 2023; to review and finalize the Project’s 2024 work and financial plan, for endorsement to the Project Board/ Steering Committee; and be updated/ oriented on the status of the implementation of gender action plan, stakeholder engagement plan, indigenous peoples plan, environmental and social management framework, and communications strategy and plan of the project.
The objectives of this meeting indicate a comprehensive and strategic approach to managing the ABS project in the Philippines, focusing on partnerships, progress assessment, and future planning, as well as addressing key issues like gender, stakeholder engagement, indigenous rights, and environmental and social management.
