Dr. Shirly C. Serrano, permanent representative, and Mr. Daryl A. Juganas, alternate representative, to the National Framework on Access and Benefit Sharing of Genetic Resources and Associated Traditional Knowledge in the Philippines (ABS Project), played key roles as facilitators during the Participatory Community Resource Mapping in Indigenous Peoples’ Communities in Region 3. The event was held from May 13-15, 2024, in selected Indigenous Peoples’ communities in Cabangan, Zambales, Botolan, Zambales, and Morong, Bataan.

The activity was further supported by Ms. Peachy G. Domingo, a resource person from the Department of Social Sciences, College of Arts and Social Sciences, who provided expertise on focus group discussions and resource mapping.

Through this collaborative effort of the academe and DENR, the team was able to identify and map areas with abundant and dense standing Banaba trees within the project sites, gather information about Banaba and their general area, finalize community protocols for selected communities, and discuss and secure resolutions on the conduct of biodiversity assessment activities and other ABS-related activities.
